Sir Nigel RuddNon-Exective Partner
Sir Nigel is an active participant at Longbow and offers a unique insight into the corporate environment as well as entrepreneurship. He is a regular member of the Supervisory Committee. After qualifying as the youngest ever Chartered Accountant in the UK at the time, Sir Nigel went on to build Williams Holdings into one of the UK’s largest holding companies before overseeing its demerger into Chubb plc and Kidde. He founded and remains Chairman of Pendragon plc, is Chairman of BAA Ltd, is a non executive director of BAe Systems and Sappi Ltd and currently acts as an advisor to Clayton, Dubilier Rice a US based private equity firm.
Jonathan PowellNon-Executive Partner
Jonathan Powell is the Chairman and a co-founder of Longbow. Subsequently, after a year as Chairman of a small venture capital business, he formed Longbow in 2004 with a number of partners. As well as acting as Chairman of the partnership, Jonathan is Chairman of the Remuneration Committee and sits on the Supervisory Committee.
Chris OutramNon-Executive Partner
Chris co-founded OC&C Strategy Consultants in 1987 which now operates from 13 offices worldwide. He has over 25 years’ experience helping companies develop and refine their growth strategies. Chris has also served on the Boards of AIM and main listed companies as well as a US listed Company.
Bill HusselbyNon-Executive Partner
Bill Husselby is the Chairman and owner of Cogent Elliott Group (the longest established UK independent advertising agency). Past involvement includes William Holdings, Jewson, Milton Keynes and Rolls Royce. Current involvement includes Jaguar, Land Rover, Network Q, Aga, Fortnum & Mason and Arriva Trains. Bill is also a Director of Welsh National Opera, Director of Birmingham Opera Company, Member of the Norwich Diocesan Board and Chairman of the Lady Katherine Leveson Foundation. He is currently a Deputy Lieutenant of the West Midlands and has been Vice Chairman of West Midlands Industry 96 and High Sheriff of the West Midlands.
Colin BothwayNon-Executive Partner
Colin Bothway is a co-founder of Longbow and has a range of property based interests through his position as Chairman of Daveney, a private leisure and investment company, and as a director of Howards Group, a private property services company. Colin has been an active investor in early stage companies for more than 25 years and is a member of Longbow’s Supervisory Committee.
Gilmour ThomGilmour Thom is Consultant at Longbow Capital.
Gilmour Thom joined Longbow in August 2005. Gilmour had been a stockbroker for 37 years, 19 of which were in London where he had been a partner in L. Messel & Co. He returned to Scotland in 1989 and was a director of Bell Lawrie White & Co. Ltd and then Sutherlands Ltd. He has specialised in smaller companies and corporate finance related business. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Price Waterhouse & Co.
Charles CrickNon-Executive Partner
Charles Crick joined Longbow in March 2005. Charles was head of corporate finance at Numis Corporation PLC, the investment bank, from 1997 until December 2004 (jointly from 2003) when he retired. He was also a main board director at Numis during this time when the market capitalisation of the company grew from some £8 million to in excess of £150 million. Before joining Numis, Charles was a solicitor in private practice specialising in banking and corporate finance. He trained and spent the early part of his career at Allen & Overy.
Kevin DoyleNon-Executive Partner
Kevin Doyle is a co-founder of Longbow and has an entrepreneurial background. Kevin is based in Edinburgh and currently heads up Caledonian Heritable Investments Limited, a £26m private investment company. Prior to that, he built up and sold Coronation Inns to Scottish & Newcastle in 1993. Kevin also has a broad range of other investment interests both in the UK and overseas.
Colin HarrisColin Harris is the Chairman of Longbow’s Supervisory Committee (although not a partner of Longbow Capital).
After graduating, Colin qualified as a solicitor and spent the early part of his career in private practice before joining international insurance brokers Alexander & Alexander. He became senior legal counsel before leaving to join Newton Investment Management in 1985. He then went on to become Chief Executive of the firm and retired from Newton in 2002. During the intervening 17 year period Newton had enjoyed a period of rapid growth with funds under management rising from around £300 million to over £23 billion by 2002.

For 8 years until 2003, Nick was Managing Director of Lehman Brothers (Europe) investment bank. During his time there he was a member of the European Operating Committee, Global Co-Head of Recruitment and Programmes and Co-Head of European Financial Institutions. Before joining Lehman Brothers, Nick worked at JP Morgan and Salomon Brothers for 14 years. Nick is also a non-exectuive director of Catlin Insurance Company and Miller Insurance Services Ltd.
